Catherine HUNOLD - Soprano
Catherine Hunold attended the classes of Mady Mesplé, Margaret Price and Christa Ludwig.
In the German repertoire, she made her debut in the role of Isolde (Tristan und Isolde) at the Statní Opera in Prague. She sang the roles of The Primadonna / Ariadne in Ariadne auf Naxos (Toulouse, Dresden), Brünnhilde from Die Walküre (Bari, Rennes and for an adaptation of the Ring Cycle at the Amphitheatre of the Paris National Opera), Ortrud from Lohengrin (Rennes, Seoul, Saint-Etienne, Angers, Nantes, and covered this very role at the Paris Opera and in Covent Garden), Kundry from Parsifal (Palermo and cover for the Paris Opera), Senta from Der fliegende Holländer (Lacoste Festival and Massy), Leonore from Fidelio (extracts in Rennes), Bessie in Mahagonny Songspiel by Kurt Weill (Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Theater an der Wien), Sieglinde from Die Walküre and Marie from Wozzeck (extracts at the Théâtre du Châtelet).
In the Italian repertoire, she sang Leonora from La Forza del Destino (Toulouse), Turandot in a concert version (extracts in Rennes), Lady Macbeth from Macbeth (Saint-Etienne, Théâtre du Trianon in Paris) and sang her first Santuzza from Cavalleria Rusticana and her first Norma at the Gattières Festival.
She was praised for her interpretation of the French Romantic repertoire: Vérité from Guercoeur by Magnard (Strasbourg, Mulhouse), Marguerite from La Damnation de Faust (Nantes and Angers), Ariane from Ariane et Barbe-Bleue by Dukas (Nancy), Agnès from La Nonne Sanglante by Berlioz (Montpellier Festival), Brunehilde from Sigurd by Reyer (Nancy), Giuseppa from Matteo Falcone by Gouvy and Françoise de Rimini by Ambroise Thomas (Metz), Anahita from Le Mage by Massenet and Floria from Les Barbares by Saint-Saëns (Saint-Etienne). She sang Madame Lidoine from Dialogues des Carmélites (Angers, Nantes and Avignon), Bérénice from the opera by Magnard (Tours) and the title-role of Pénélope by Fauré (Toulouse, Athens). She also sings the contemporary repertoire: La Reine from Affaire Etrangère by Valentin Villenave (Montpellier) and the title-role of Alienor d'Aquitaine by Alain Worpi (Limoges).
She made her debut in Czech singing the role of Kostelnička from Jenůfa in Toulouse.
In the concert field, she sang the title-role in Mitropoulos' Soeur Béatrice in Athens (where she was invited back for an opera gala), the Four Last Songs by Strauss, Isolde’s Liebestod and the Wesendonck Lieder by Wagner, Des Sängers Fluch and Vom Pagen und der Königstochter by Schumann, Mahler’s 4th and 8th Symphonies as well as Des Knaben Wunderhorn, Verdi’s Requiem, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Bernstein’s 1st Symphony, La Chanson Perpétuelle by Chausson, the Cantata on the Death of Joseph II by Beethoven. She sang Les Poèmes pour Mi and Harawi by Messiaen, La Vierge by Massenet and Ravel's cantata Myrrha. She sang a "Love Dream" recital at the Capitole in Toulouse.
Her discography includes the recordings of Le Mage by Massenet, Les Barbares by Saint-Saëns and Dukas’ cantata Sémélé.
She sang for "Le Concert des Etoiles" - a Verdi Gala - and later for "Musiques en Fête" during the summer of 2023 for French National Television.
Her season 2024-2025 includes her debut as Abigaille from Nabucco in Toulouse and she will take over the role of Brunehilde from Sigurd by Reyer in Marseille.
